Renovating our bathroom is a great investment that is worth it, as it won’t only bring life back to this important environment but it will also add value to our home. But how do we make sure we get results that we love? Here's the key: Follow this checklist to create a functional and stylish space.

1. A CAPTIVATING FIRST IMPRESSION

If you want to have a magazine bathroom, the first thing you should think about is washbasins, since it’s one of the most important and visible elements of the bathroom. You can choose between different materials, such as ceramic, glass, marble or metal, depending on the decorative style. Some options are suspended sinks fixed directly to the wall, without furniture or countertops, they provide a feeling of spaciousness and lightness. On the other hand, countertop sinks are an innovative option that adds personality to the bathroom, allowing the sink to be combined with the material and color of the countertop. You can also opt for the classic sinks integrated into the countertop, which are ideal for minimalist bathrooms, offering a clean and uniform design.

2. INSEPARABLE COMPANIONS

Vanity units and countertops are indispensable components for the washbasin in the bathroom because they increase its functionality and complement its design. You can choose wall-hung units for a modern, minimalist look, adding spaciousness and elegance. Floor-standing units are also popular for their stability and sturdiness. A good option for warmth and a rustic feel is to incorporate solid wood in natural and aged tones. You can also opt for furniture in vibrant tones such as blue or green to add personality. Another way is to incorporate open furniture with visible shelves to display towels and decorative elements, adding modernity. If you combine wood, marble, and glass you get a sophisticated touch with visual contrast and elegance.

3. THE PERFECT COMBINATION IF IT EXISTS

Choosing the right materials and colors for walls and floors can completely transform the look of your bathroom. Although it will depend on our preferences and the desired style, we can follow some general guidelines to get the combination right. For example, walls in white or neutral tones with imitation wood paneled floors. For an effect of continuity and spaciousness, opt for floors and walls in the same tone. But, if you are looking for a striking contrast, you can combine a dark floor, such as black or gray, with walls in light colors, such as white or cream. Another idea is to choose a base color and play with lighter and darker tones on the floor and walls. You can also highlight a specific wall, such as the back of the sink or shower, using mosaics or bold patterns. A feeling of luxury and elegance is achieved with porcelain tiles that imitate natural stone such as marble, granite, or slate.

4. MORE ORDER, MORE SPACE

One trend that is becoming increasingly popular in bathroom design is to make the most of the available space to create storage areas. Popular options include built-in cabinets and shelving, which allow vertical walls to be utilized. Bathroom furniture takes center stage, offering drawers and shelves that provide more storage for toiletries, towels, and other essentials. Also, it’s possible to use organizers and baskets on the shelves to keep products tidy and easily accessible. Other items such as trolleys, stools, or coat racks will make it easier for you to organize and move around the bathroom. Ideally, it should be practical, accessible, and decorative, but without overloading the space.

5. DIVIDE WITH CHARACTER

The shower or bathtub partition is always decisive in the interior design of the bathroom. Clear glass partitions provide a feeling of spaciousness and allow natural light to spread throughout the space. Also, screens can be found with decorative finishes, such as frosted or etched glass, that add privacy without compromising light. In terms of profiles, the most popular glass partition designs are black profiles that add a modern and elegant touch, chrome for a polished look, or without profiles for a more minimalist and sophisticated space. The screens with bars also add a decorative and industrial detail. If we talk about functionality, you can choose between sliding, folding, or fixed screens.

6. DO YOU CHOOSE ONE OR ALL AT THE SAME TIME?

The bathtub or shower is another essential element to achieve a comfortable and pleasant bathroom design. An alternative is to use a freestanding bathtub worthy of a vintage style, or a walk-in shower with a fixed and open screen for a minimalist design. If you can't decide on one, why not use both? For example, a built-in bathtub next to an adjoining shower, separated by an elegant glass partition. You can also accentuate both with a cladding of different textures and different colors or highlight one while the other goes unnoticed. In the end, it all depends on your personal preferences and creating a bathroom space that suits your needs and tastes.

7. A HARMONIOUS INTEGRATION

Toilets are often bulky and take up a significant amount of space in the bathroom, which makes them the most difficult element to integrate into the interior design. Depending on the aesthetics, you can choose wall-hung toilets, which are installed on the wall without contact with the floor and provide a modern look. But, flush-mounted toilets are also an elegant option, as the cistern is hidden inside the wall. In terms of styles, you can choose between toilets with clean, minimalist lines for a contemporary design, or with detailing for a classic or vintage approach. As for finishes, you can opt for toilets with smooth and shiny surfaces, such as porcelain or ceramic.
